About the role

Description

The Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University welcomes applicants for a full-time Assistant Clinical Professor to teach our introductory Undergraduate Ground Floor course. The candidate will be part of the Communications and Media Management (CMM) Area and will start in Fall 2026. All candidates should be dedicated to excellence in teaching. The standard teaching load for a Non-Tenure-Track full-time position is 8 courses, scheduled in the Fall and Spring semesters. The salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, will be in the range $115,000 - $125,000.

We are looking for faculty with a strong teaching record and a successful career in industry to teach the undergraduate course “The Ground Floor,” our showcase business course for first-year students. The course is interdisciplinary, introducing students to the business environment and teaching what we mean by business with purpose. The position requires collaboration with a large number of faculty members who teach different sections of the course. The faculty member in this full-time position must also coordinate with adjunct faculty and external guest speakers.

While the primary teaching responsibility is to teach the Ground Floor course, the Dean of the Business School may instead assign the faculty member to teach courses in communication, such as the Career Exploration course for first-year students, that are part of the courses taught by faculty in the CMM Area, subject to the needs of the Area and the school.

In addition to teaching the NTT teaching load of 8 courses, we expect the candidate for this position to serve an additional Faculty Overlay Role as required by the School. Through immersive academic programming, community-building experiences, and faculty-student engagement, this role will enhance yield, reduce summer melt, and foster a sense of belonging that supports student persistence and success. More details of the role are described in an addendum to this document. The candidate will receive an additional $10,000 in funding for each year they are assigned these additional duties by the Dean.

Faculty Overlay Role: Faculty Lead for Student Yield and Success

The faculty lead for student yield and success will play a vital role in advancing the Gabelli School of Business’s goals related to student recruitment, engagement, and retention. Reporting to the director of retention and student engagement, this faculty member will design and lead initiatives that strengthen the connection between prospective and first-year students and the Gabelli School’s mission of educating business leaders with purpose. Through immersive academic programming, community-building experiences, and faculty-student engagement, this role will enhance yield, reduce summer melt, and foster a sense of belonging that supports student persistence and success.

  • Lead a Spring Yield Immersive Program: Design and deliver an on-campus immersive academic experience for selected admitted students (35-50 total) that showcases Gabelli’s academic strengths, community, and career outcomes.
  • Represent Faculty at GSB Events: Serve as the faculty representative at virtual RAM Sessions throughout the year and represent the Gabelli School at the Fall Open House, Spring Preview, Family Weekend, New Student Orientation, and other similar events.
  • Support Summer Melt Prevention: In collaboration with the Director for Retention and Student Engagement, lead 1–2 targeted summer programs as precursors to the Ground Floor to sustain engagement and readiness among incoming students.
  • Develop Faculty-Student Connection Opportunities: Partner with Director for Retention and Student Engagement to create 2–3 informal faculty-led engagement moments (e.g., welcome lunches, academic fireside chats, information sessions) designed to build belonging and strengthen first-year persistence, as part of the Woolworth Scholars Program.
  • Connect Jesuit Mission and business education: Lead a case-based series for first-year students across both campuses to connect their early coursework to the broader Jesuit principle of business with purpose—strengthening belonging and meaning-making.
  • Serve as Faculty Ambassador for Student Success: Participate in student panels, video spotlights, or storytelling initiatives, as identified by the Dean’s Office, that highlight Gabelli’s distinctive learning experience, and collaborate with staff to integrate faculty presence into student success communications and events.
  • Support other yield, anti-melt, and retention initiatives as needed.
