PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring Salary: $20/hour

OVERVIEW OF JOB
The Aurora Water Construction Inspections Intern works with the Aurora Water Inspections Team to provide field inspection services for work performed adjacent to the city’s critical water and sanitary pipelines. Duties include coordinating inspection callouts with contractors, meeting contractors on site, attending pre-construction meetings, taking notes and photos of work performed, writing daily inspection reports, driving pipeline routes and checking for unauthorized construction activities, performing other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbents, as assigned, perform entry-level inspections independently, once fully trained, of wet utilities and related systems including fire and life safety systems of residential development and capital projects to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities may include:
- Observes water construction projects and elevates issues to supervisor
- Completes standard inspection of new and repaired water and sanitary service lines and elevates discrepancies to supervisor
- Communicate water issues with other city departments
- Maintains accurate construction files and records
- Conducts walk-through with contractors and inspects completed and in-progress work sites and elevates issues to supervisor
- Performs miscellaneous field work such as gathering information, finding problem areas, and performing rude survey work
- Works on special projects as assigned
- Performs additional duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED with current enrollment in college-level courses in civil engineering, environmental engineering, construction management, or other directly related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in construction and or construction inspection.
Skills:
- Read and understand construction plans and specifications
- Basic Microsoft Office program knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS)
Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, employees, and citizens
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Make detailed observations of construction work
- Maintain records of inspections performed
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to meet deadlines and project schedules
- Ability to work in all weather condition
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
- Light physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds
