Position Description
Reporting to the Head of High Performance, the Senior Manager of Sport Science YNT contributes to the design and delivery of world-class Sport Science support to youth national team players at U.S. Soccer. In collaboration with the Head of High Performance, this person will help support, develop, and manage U.S. Soccer’s Sport Science staff, player care, and safety protocols. This individual will commit to U.S Soccer’s mission and strategy to maximize performance across all sport development programs at the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee development and implementation of strategic planning & development, team management and leadership, athlete development, performance analysis and monitoring, stakeholder management, and program evaluation and reporting to enhance the performance of athletes and teams within the U.S. Soccer Federation
- Manage and develop all full-time, part-time, and external consultant Sport Science staff within the YNT and ENT, and support SNT staff in their sport science practices
- Develop strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary team, sharing and informing best practice
- Oversee the collection of Sport Science data and injury surveillance in the electronic Sport Science records in line with U.S Soccer standards
- Lead, develop and implement the requirements for all aspects of delivery and data collection across the Sport Science pathway including (but not limited to) session planning, physical loading, physical programming, individual player development, screening & testing, applying innovations, and appropriate reporting of all relevant data
- Develop and manage relationships with all national players club teams to ensure a bi-lateral exchange of Sport Science data and information pre- and post-national camps
- Travel and provide support to national teams as and when required during games and training camps with the goal of (but not limited to) implementing standard operating procedures, onboarding full-time and network staff, and maintaining world class standards
- Under the guidance of the Head of High Performance develop internal and external research
- Support, develop, and collaborate Sport Science systems, data and staff within the membership and other soccer institutions
- Help support and develop an internal and external CPD program for staff within the Federations and practitioners within clubs
- Contribute to special projects within U.S. Soccer’s Sporting and Commercial departments
- Contribute to the education of staff and coaches within the Federation, and those enrolled in Federation specific qualification pathways
- Support the development of internal resources required within the High-Performance Department
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Sport Science, Kinesiology, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of the game of soccer
- Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent) certification
- Minimum 5-10 years of relevant sport science experience working within Soccer and/or other elite sport
- Experience in managing and developing a Sport Science staff and department
- Experience working with GPS and other monitoring systems as well as experience working with EMR Systems (ex: Smartabase or Kitman Labs)
- Knowledge and experience of Sport Science requirements for adult and youth players
- Balance of theoretical and applied experiences
- Able and willing to travel up to 25% of the year
