The Enabling Facilities (EF) group within the Chemical Engineering Research & Development (CERD) Department is seeking a highly motivated individual to work in a fast-paced job that provides both technical and project management responsibility. The Specialist – Manufacturing Automation position will report to the Director, Engineering, Automation Lead position and will be a member of the EF Team at the Rahway NJ facility. EF is responsible for development of new technologies/capabilities, execution of capital and non-capital improvement projects, and the automation system assets spanning production, utility systems and associated infrastructure. Responsibilities of the Specialist – Manufacturing Automation include the following:
Site Operations (GWES): The Automation specialist will help to support several automation systems across the Rahway Site including ABB Distributed Control Systems, environmental control systems and equipment utility metering systems. This role will collaborate with Global Workplace Enterprise Solutions (GWES) in prioritizing a portfolio of automation improvement projects (capital/non-capital) supporting API Operations and the Rahway Powerhouse/Utilities/Environmental Operations space, interfacing with key partners and area leadership to ensure delivery of business objectives, including operational efficiencies, compliance, energy savings initiatives, improved reliability, operability and maintainability.
REES Environmental Monitoring System: The Rahway site utilizes a single environmental system (REES) to support the monitoring and alarming of multiple areas onsite included but not limited to areas for our company's Research Laboratories, our company's Manufacturing Division, Animal Health and GWES. The system is GMP and monitors areas and equipment that are both GMP and non-GMP. This position will play a key role as steward for this system. Responsibilities include collaborating with the end user areas, the IT groups as well as the vendor to ensure that the computer system operation and computer system validation is completed and maintained, and that the field devices in various locations throughout the Rahway site are calibrated and qualified as required. Also, this role will lead any future changes to the system such as system expansion projects from either a computer system perspective or from a field device perspective as well as also leading any efforts to relocate, remove or replace parts of the system as needed.
Additional Supported Areas
As required and in addition to support of current capital projects the Specialist may provide direct support to other areas such as:
Hazardous Reactions Lab (HRL): The Hazardous Reactions Lab (HRL), or Bldg. 801, uses GE PLC 90-30 processors and Genius I/O blocks. The Graphical interface is an Intellution iFix platform run on redundant SCADAS and seven workstations, with historical data collected on a local historian as well as OSI PI. The B801 High Pressure Lab and Low-Pressure Lab Automation Systems supports Hydrogenation Hazardous reactions using a wide variety of vessels and equipment. The High-Pressure Barricades Cells are divided up into ten cells where each cell is electrically classified as Class 1 Division 2 Hazardous Area, Group B.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Engineering, Science, or Computer-Programming related degree with minimum of 3 years relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience
Required Experience and Skills:
Experience with Environmental Monitoring Systems (REES or other EMS), including system upkeep and the ability to understand, update and implement changes to the GMP system.
Ability to problem solve/troubleshoot, with knowledge of root cause analysis.
Experience with coordinating maintenance activities around processing activities to support reliable operation.
Ability to prepare/review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and cGMP documents.
Experience with Quality Systems
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent organizational skills to multi-task.
Desire and willingness to learn and contribute.
Knowledge of automation items such as wiring, electrical, device selection or integration
Candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Strong analytical thinking and technical writing skills
Proficient in MS Office Platform and document storage systems
An ability to foster innovation, creativity, and self-initiative along with ability to plan and organize activities.
