Job Description
Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Plant Superintendent
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates the activities of the Maintenance Department, which includes scheduling of preventative maintenance and repairs of manufacturing plant machinery utilized in the production of leaf springs, as well as certain equipment at the distribution facility. Manages the CNC production-milling center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Sets and monitors specific departmental goals within the parameters established by the Plant Superintendent and the Director of Manufacturing.
Supervises and directs maintenance depart employees including 9 maintenance technicians, 1 maintenance machinist and 1 janitor. Monitors attendance, quality and quantity of work performed and counsels employees on work related issues.
Supervises and directs the CNC production-milling department which includes 2 production machinists. Monitors attendance, quality and quantity of work performed and counsels employees on work related issues.
Schedules maintenance technicians to perform needed repairs and routine maintenance on plant equipment and machinery. Interacts with manufacturing supervisors to prioritize the work schedule to meet production department needs.
Review company safety policies and procedures, occasionally supplying input in areas that are directly related to equipment and employee involvement during maintenance operations.
Ensure the training and compliance of department personnel regarding safety policies and procedures.
Schedules and assists in the training of maintenance department employees. Constantly changing technology requires some level of training on a continual basis to stay current.
Coordinate with the engineering department and manufacturing management to facilitate projects. I.E. Equipment rebuilds, equipment improvements, design input and building of new equipment.
Track, control and order maintenance spare parts inventory. Initiates purchase requests and purchase orders.
Schedule by priority, maintenance department machine shop, machining manufacturing tooling and machinery repair parts.
Tracks, controls and orders the CNC production-milling departments tooling and raw materials.
Due to department manning, the position requires that the maintenance manager be a fully trained and experienced technician. Depending on the project schedule and equipment breakdowns as much as 40% to 50% of the managers time could be direct.
Maintains CMMS (computer maintenance management system) dealing with man-hours and inventory control. Generating month-end and year-end reports, filing and forwarding to upper management.
Occasionally initiates capitol projects, which includes researching different types of equipment and cost savings. Forwarding information to the engineering department and upper management for consideration.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 11 employees in the Maintenance Department and 2 employees in the CNC production-milling department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
