We are searching for the best talent for a Senior Scientist, High-Throughput Experimentation to be located in Spring House, PA.
Purpose: We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) Center of Excellence within Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC). This unique role provides an unprecedented opportunity to contribute to the impact of our state-of-the-art capabilities on Johnson & Johnson’s evolving pipeline and to further innovation in the high-throughput technologies space.
In GDC, we deliver high quality drug candidates in close partnership with all Johnson & Johnson Therapeutic Area (TA) discovery teams. The successful scientist will join a team consisting of chemists with a diversity of skills including Medicinal Chemistry, Automated Synthesis, Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Data Science, Analytical Chemistry etc. They will use state-of-the art techniques and instrumentation to design and synthesize drug candidates to advance drug discovery projects across a range of modalities. Acceleration of discovery programs through application of high-throughput experimentation, high-throughput synthesis, reaction automation and AI/ML approaches will be a focus.
You will be responsible for:
- Designing and executing automated experiments to optimize chemical reactions or discover new transformations that impact progression of discovery leads.
- Designing and performing HTE experiments to generate reaction data to fuel synthesis prediction efforts and AI/ML models applicable to J&J’s internal programs.
- In close collaborations with partners across other functions (i.e., Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Data science), contributing to the evolution and application of our Direct-to-Biology (D2B) platform by designing, validating and completing semi-automated and automated experiments to effectively accelerate the discovery portfolio and Design-Make-Test-Analyze cycles.
- Designing and executing semi-automated and automated experiments to effectively carry out structure-activity relationships (SAR) campaigns on drug discovery projects.
- Identifying broad implications of data including data capture and data mining from HTE and parallel experiments.
- Streamlining workflows and developing automated laboratory processes.
- Becoming an expert in high-throughput synthesis workflows in J&J and provide training to Global Discovery Chemistry team members on HTE and D2B workflows when necessary.
- Learning programming and debugging with Python, Pipeline Pilot, relational databases, SQL, LIMS or other relevant enterprise software packages.
- Proactively and clearly providing project status updates to key partners, through various channels including in-person and virtual meetings.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Education:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field is required. An advanced degree (Master's, PhD) is preferred.
