Vir Biotechnology, Inc. is an immunology company focused on powering the immune system to transform lives by treating and preventing infectious diseases and other serious conditions, including viral-associated diseases. THE OPPORTUNITY

The SVP, Commercial Lead will be a major contributor to the strategic development and success of the commercial business organization and to the success of Vir. This role will provide leadership for the creation and implementation of the commercial strategy for Vir products being introduced into new markets, with a focus on the U.S. market. They will also be responsible for financial results for the operating unit, direction and leadership of the team, and interaction with outside partners (manufacturing, distribution, payors, key opinion leaders, and other core customers). They will provide leadership and strategic direction to several teams whose functions include but are not limited to the following: global product strategy; market insights and analytics, commercial operations, and sales. This role will be based in San Francisco and requires 4 days a week onsite when not on business travel. They will report directly to the EVP, Chief Business Officer.  Travel up to 30% of the time is required.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Create detailed commercial strategies for all Vir product launches, including products in infectious disease and oncology, and communicate those strategies to internal and external audiences, including to Vir’s board of directors and to investors.
  • Develop necessary infrastructure to support effective and efficient commercial operations.
  • Execute the commercial strategy and align resources to ensure successful introduction of Vir’s first products into the U.S. market and beyond.
  • Lead all commercial product launch preparation activities including brand strategy, product positioning, distribution, market access strategy, sales force strategy, and pricing.
  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership to the commercial organization to ensure the development of the business and of the team.
  • Lead a global product strategy team that develops early launch readiness plans, market assessments, and TPPs; provides input on R&D planning and prioritization; defines OUS commercial strategies and manages OUS commercial partners.
  • Lead a marketing insights and analytics team that provides commercial forecasting; determines sales force sizing and goal setting; generates models for potential new opportunities and disease areas.
  • Lead or otherwise influence an evidence, value, and access team that executes health economics and outcomes research, pricing, access, and reimbursement; secures reimbursement across key markets; educates payor stakeholders on products, their economic value, and their patient benefit; maps stakeholders and creates engagement plans; leads payor negotiations; ensures compliant market access activities; ensures real-world-evidence (RWE) strategies.
  • Perform ad-hoc work/special projects as necessary to support Vir’s various business initiatives.

 

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING

  • Fifteen or more years of experience in pharma/biotech or relevant life sciences commercial roles, including roles in which leadership and success have been demonstrated
  • Experience in the commercialization of products for infectious disease and/or oncology is strongly preferred, as is an entrepreneurial background and attitude
  • In-depth knowledge of US markets, channels, payors, providers, and other relevant parties in the US biopharma commercial ecosystem
  • History of commercial success in the US, preferably involving a biopharma company’s first launch, and products that address potentially difficult-to-access patient populations
  • Robust understanding of the full drug development process, life-cycle management, and commercialization of therapeutics
