How you'll contribute
A Maintenance Worker who excels in this role:

  • Is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the facility’s central utility plant, including boilers, chillers, pumps, and associated systems. 
  • Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure uninterrupted heating, cooling, and steam services critical to hospital operations. 
  • Supports general facility maintenance activities as needed to maintain a safe, compliant, and functional healthcare environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Central Plant Operations: 

  • Operate and monitor boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, and related systems. 
  • Maintain proper steam, hot water, and chilled water production to meet facility demands. 
  • Monitor system performance through BAS/EMS. 
  • Adjust equipment controls to optimize efficiency and maintain safe operating conditions. 
  • Respond promptly to alarms, system failures, and emergency conditions. 

Preventative Maintenance: 

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on central plant equipment. 
  • Inspect and maintain valves, strainers, filters, belts, bearings, and lubrication systems. 
  • Conduct water treatment testing and adjustments for boilers and cooling towers. 
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs in CMMS. 

Troubleshooting & Repairs: 

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues within the plant. 
  • Perform minor to moderate repairs on boilers, chillers, and auxiliary systems. 
  • Coordinate with vendors for major repairs or specialized services. 
  • Assist in system startups, shutdowns, and seasonal changeovers. 

General Facility Maintenance Support: 

  • Assist with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks throughout the facility. 
  • Respond to work orders and urgent service calls as needed. 
  • Support Environment of Care (EOC) compliance and life safety initiatives. 
  • Participate in facility rounds and inspections.

 

What we’re looking for
Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training in HVAC, boiler operation, or related field preferred. 

Licenses/Certifications (preferred)

  • Boiler Operator License (if required by state/local jurisdiction) 
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
  • Relevant trade certifications (HVAC, mechanical systems).

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong working knowledge of steam systems, chilled water systems, and HVAC principles. 
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS). 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. 
  • Skilled in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems. 
  • Understanding of safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and regulatory compliance. 
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces for extended periods. 
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including hot mechanical rooms. 

Work Environment 

  • Hospital and healthcare facility environment. 
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, noise, and varying environmental conditions. 
  • May require on-call, weekend, holiday, or PRN coverage.
