Job Description

Leads the development and provision of on-site pharmaceutical services at GMS facilities. Pharmaceutical program leadership includes setting the goals, objectives, and direction for the pharmacy program and leading a team of contractor pharmacists and/or pharmacy technicians. Plan and organize the overall structure, ensure equitably balanced workload among the on-site pharmacy staff members, provide instruction and orientation to pharmacy staff, set and adjust short-term priorities, guide the development schedules for completion of work, and provide guidance and mentorship to interdisciplinary staff to develop clinical judgment, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develops and oversees the overall approach to the delivery of pharmacy-related services for all programs
  • Drives GMS approach to technology and pharmacy software to ensure efficiency and clinical compliance
  • Reviews and updates departmental directives and supervising policies for medication procurement, storage, distribution, and use within GMS to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in ongoing quality assurance and performance improvement activities including audits, chart reviews, and development of review criteria.
  • Determines formulary standards and minimums by project/facility type
  • Sits as Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee
  • Participates in the Clinical Pharmacist Peer Review process
  • Inspects medication stock and medication use outside of the Pharmacy per departmental directives.
  • Reports all instances of regulatory non-compliance to the CMO.
  • Oversees medication ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels while not exceeding budget limits.
  • Participates actively in quality assurance and process improvement as required.
  • Provides active participation on multi-disciplinary committees as assigned.
  • Participates with administrative projects as delegated or as approved by leadership.

 

Qualifications

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 (five) years experience as a practicing pharmacist
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role – experience contributing at an executive level and leading committees
  • Expertise in pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, and all management aspects related to the practice of pharmacy in a clinic/infirmary setting.
  • Possesses necessary skills for operating general office technology including Microsoft Office products.

Education Required:

  • Shall have and maintain a current license and registration to practice as pharmacist in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands that allows for the independent practice of clinical services.
  • DEA License
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
  • May require bending, stooping, and lifting to 15 lbs.
