About the role
Netflix has been changing the way people watch shows and movies and we've built a global Content Delivery Network called Open Connect, which sets the standard for video delivery. Building Open Connect required the effort of a truly global team representing a diverse set of skills, backgrounds, cultures and personalities. Delivering the right personalized experience requires us to understand and meet our members where they are.
As a Geo & Network Intelligence intern, you will be actively involved in the development of Netflix’s global IP to geolocation system. Our goal is to better understand where our members are using Netflix around the world while protecting their privacy. We are looking for candidates who have a working understanding of how spatial datasets vary across the world, and how country and regional differences make interpreting spatial datasets using a globally-applicable model a challenge. This will be hands-on work; you should be familiar with popular GIS (Geographic Information System) software, SQL, and Python.

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications:
- Current student pursuing a MS/MA or PhD in a technical field such as Geospatial Engineering, Geography, Spatial Information Science, Geological Sciences, Computer Science or related discipline — with an expected graduation date around December 2024 or Spring/Summer 2025
- Programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, and SQL
- Familiarity with popular GIS (Geographic Information System) software, including Esri’s ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, or ArcGIS Online
- Familiarity with GIS tools, spatial and relational databases, and network analysis concepts
- Experience with QGIS or Google Earth is a plus
- Excited about solving open-ended challenges at Netflix
