Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Business Unit Director (BUD) for the Energy Transition (ET) and Industrial Water (IW) group for the Business Area Resilience Environment in the US.  This position reports to the Resilience Environment Business Area Director and is based out of any Arcadis location in the United States. This role is a member of the Environment Senior Leadership Team.

As a Business Unit Director, you will be a visionary leader of the Energy Transition and Industrial Water practice with deep market knowledge in one or more of the core practices, a strong client focus and the ability to inspire and lead a large team of professionals while driving operational performance  and growth across this critical practice. The ideal candidate will exhibit a relentless commitment to our clients and to our people - growing the practice and delivering world-class projects while ensuring that our operational performance not only meet but exceed industry standards. Role accountabilities:

Refining and implementing our strategy:  

  • Driving the growth of the practice through a relentless client focus, strong market position and forward-looking growth strategy.
  • Maintaining strong client relationships, participating in our major pursuits and supporting our market presence.
  • Leading, motivating and developing a diverse team by recruiting, setting objectives, and reviewing performance to ensure staff are developed, inspired and have the necessary skills to both advance their career and deliver the strategy.  
  • Ensuring active management of project cash flow, including a clear understanding visibility of DRO performance, unbilled receivables, and invoice payment across the business unit’s project portfolio.  
  • Supporting growth in partnership with the client development (“Growth”) teams to align with market drivers and resource needs to deliver on Arcadis’ global strategy. 

Build strong relationships and create successful teams:  

  • Leading the identification and development of talent in both technical capability and sales and promoting career development including leveraging the appropriate development programs.  
  • Overseeing and participating in people management across the business unit, including support and direction for hiring, onboarding, development, performance management and terminations.  
  • Leading decisions on utilization of the staff within the business unit and maintain the integrity of the business unit composition to enable optimize utilization.  
  • Leading the identification and management of risk in service delivery and ensure compliance with governance processes in the business unit to lead to service excellence and client satisfaction.  
  • Demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to connect with, manage, mentor, inspire and lead the team and understand the skill set of a diverse team of people.  
  • Being a visible steward of Health & Safety by completing required stewardship goals and being a strong mentor and example for Health & Safety.  

You will have a high level of intellectual, professional, and interpersonal agility and flexibility. You will bring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization in particular senior levels.  

Qualifications & Experience:

  • You should be an inspiring and recognized leader in one of the group’s core practice areas (co-located power, energy deliver, power transmission, industrial water or environmental permitting) with at least 10 years of experience leading and growing a significant business function within a professional services firm.
