Patient Service & BioMed Technician Position Summary
Supports the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization by performing a dual role that includes both patient-facing and equipment-focused responsibilities. This team member delivers, sets up, recovers, cleans, and maintains durable medical equipment (DME), including respiratory equipment, while providing excellent patient education and service. They also perform quality assurance and repair functions in the warehouse to ensure that equipment is clean, functional, and ready for use.
Patient Service & BioMed Technician Essential Functions
- Models and holds others accountable to the Barnes culture; acts as a coach and mentor to others in the organization.
- Completes efficient and safe deliveries, new-patient setups, and equipment recoveries in the designated service area.
- Provides patients and caregivers with education on equipment use, rights and responsibilities, safety precautions, and care instructions.
- Collects necessary documentation, including signatures and payments, while maintaining a compassionate and professional demeanor.
- Inspects, cleans, disinfects, and updates equipment in the warehouse, ensuring quick turnaround and proper handling to prevent cross-contamination.
- Executes preventative maintenance schedules and coordinates complex repairs per manufacturer guidelines.
- Conducts quality assurance inspections on all outgoing equipment.
- Maintains accurate documentation and records of repairs, deliveries, patient interactions, and inventory updates.
- Participates in the on-call rotation as assigned.
- Loads, organizes, and secures products/equipment for delivery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Observes all safety guidelines, including use of PPE and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
Patient Service & BioMed Technician Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be 21 years of age or older with a clean driving record.
- Two years of applicable experience in BioMed or HME/DME roles preferred.
- Must possess strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work both independently and collaboratively.
Patient Service & BioMed Technician Working Conditions
- Combination of driving, standing, walking, and hands-on technical repair for up to 8+ hours per day.
- Must be able to lift up to 55+ lbs regularly.
- Exposure to patient homes, warehouse environments, and medical equipment.
