About Marquette:
Headquartered in Paducah, Kentucky and founded in 1978, Marquette is a leading provider of inland marine transportation services. Our Company operates over 130 towboats on the Mississippi River System, Gulf-Intracoastal Waterway, and near-shore coastwise market. In addition, the Company controls over 1,000 dry cargo barges. The Company has additional offices in St Rose, LA, Lockport, LA and La Porte, TX. With over 1,800 vessel and shore-based employees, Marquette is the largest provider of independent towing services within the inland waterways. We are the only fully integrated fleet in the industry that can do what we do.


Principal Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• General ledger accountability and financial reporting.
• Assists with month-end financial close by reviewing and analyzing data and preparing journal entries and accruals for approval.
• Reconciles and analyzes general ledger accounts.
• Reviews various documents for proper accounting treatment.
• Participates on/leads project teams.
• Seeks out potential areas of improvement and supports continuous improvement projects for accounting and other business functions.
• Provides backup support for other Financial and Staff Accountants as well as Accounting Managerial positions, requiring a comprehensive understanding of various Accounting processes.
• Interacts with external auditors in completing audits.
• Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• 5 or more years of accounting experience preferred.
• Public Accounting experience preferred.
• Microsoft Office skills with strong emphasis in Excel.
• Strong communication, problem solving and time management skills.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Demonstrated examples of leading change and making improvements.
• Proven ability to effectively function in an environment with multiple priorities.
