Position Summary
The Automation Team manages the implementation of strategic initiatives for the Utilization Management (UM) Clinical Services organization. These initiatives leverage technical capabilities such as artificial intelligence, rules engines, predictive analytics, intelligent character recognition, and cognitive AI to automate UM transactions, enhance workflow efficiencies, and improve the experience for providers and members.

As the Senior Manager, Product Owner (UM Automation) you will be responsible for managing multiple features from conception through delivery. You will collaborate with business partners to understand feature objectives, and with architecture and IT teams to break down features into user stories and acceptance criteria. This includes creating detailed requirements documentation, such as business and technical process flows and outcome diagrams.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Own the product vision and roadmap for assigned automation features and initiatives.
  • Translate business goals into actionable product features and user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of features by guiding the team through prioritization, sprint planning, and ongoing backlog grooming.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, business, and technical teams to ensure alignment on priorities and requirements.
  • Define and track success metrics to measure business value and feature performance.
  • Communicate status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to optimize and expand automation capabilities to drive operational efficiency and improve user experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6–10 years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or equivalent role managing complex products or features in a business or technology environment.
  • Experience leading product development of microservices and APIs in a cloud-native architecture (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams through the full product lifecycle, including discovery, design, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and hands-on experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into clear, actionable user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working with technical teams (e.g., architects, developers, QA) to refine requirements, manage dependencies, and ensure successful delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and align stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Experience developing and presenting process flows, business requirements documents, and other supporting materials to drive clarity and alignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or SAFe.
  • Knowledge of FHIR, X12 EDI transactions, interoperability standards and other healthcare integration standards
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows, utilization review processes, and InterQual/MCG guidelines.
  • Experience working in a SAFe or Scaled Agile environment
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or SAFe POPM (Product Owner/Product Manager) certified

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Computer Science or 8-10 years of relevant work experience related to standards & measurements, technology, systems and processes, including project consultation preferred.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$82,940.00 - $182,549.00
