About the role

The AVP of Small Commercial will assist in crafting the strategy for SMB, prioritize and execute management processes within SMB underwriting and overseeing the execution of technology projects focused on executing the SMB strategic roadmap. You will use your expertise to find innovative and creative ideas to drive the SMB P&L forward both in terms of underwriting results and MGA revenue and profit. You will also leverage your leadership and engagement skills to empower and develop a high-performing team. This will be a highly collaborative role partnering with Technology and Operations ensuring Velocity’s underwriting is efficient and world-class and working closely with Claims and Compliance to continually risk mitigate. You will serve as one of Velocity’s core leaders driving underwriting excellence across the firm and consistently meeting business objectives. 

What you'll do

• Responsible for overall business unit strategy, execution, and monitoring, including but not limited to: Corporate Budgets, KPIs, Portfolio Optimization, Operational Efficiency, Underwriting, Distribution/Broker Relationships and Tech/Ops 
• Ensures the division always has the right people in place and looks ahead to ensure future needs can be met. 
• Oversees all underwriting functions. 
• Establish underwriting guidelines, pricing methodology, and underwriting authority ensuring that appropriate structures are in place to measure adherence and underwriting quality. 
• Coordination with Claims/Compliance on forms/form changes, reporting, moratoriums, audits, ERM.
• Coordination with Tech/Ops on strategy, prioritization, and product needs 
• Business Unit representative in capital meetings
