Building & Grounds Worker- Full-Time 6am-2:30pm

Job Summary:

The Building & Grounds worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the school campus. This position ensures classrooms, restrooms, offices, and grounds are presentable, functional, and conducive to a positive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Classrooms, Offices, and Common Areas

• Sweep, dust, and mop floors; spot-clean spills as needed.
• Vacuum carpets and rugs; remove gum, debris, and stains.
• Empty wastebaskets and pencil sharpeners; clean chalk trays and whiteboard ledges.
• Straighten and arrange furniture to maintain an orderly appearance.
• Adjust heaters, blinds, and other fixtures for comfort and function.
• Secure windows and doors; turn off lights when areas are unoccupied.

Restrooms and Locker Rooms

• Dispose of trash and clean receptacles.
• Sweep, mop, and disinfect floors and walls.
• Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and partitions.
• Refill dispensers with paper towels, toilet tissue, seat covers, sanitary napkins, and soap.
• Remove graffiti and maintain all restroom areas in a sanitary condition.
• Clean shower fixtures, tile walls, floors, and drains, removing all soil and soap scum.

Surfaces and Fixtures

• Dust and wipe down desks, chairs, countertops, cabinets, lockers, blinds, and equipment.
• Clean stains, smudges, and marks from walls, doors, and partitions.
• Polish metal and porcelain surfaces; maintain overall cleanliness of all fixtures.
• Service and make minor adjustments to space heaters and similar equipment.
• Replace fuses, light bulbs, and fluorescent tubes as needed.

Maintenance and Repairs

• Make minor repairs to building hardware, plumbing, woodwork, and furniture.
• Identify, record, and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain records related to furniture, equipment, and custodial supplies.

Exterior Areas

• Sweep and remove debris from blacktops, walkways, stairways, sidewalks, and fence lines.
• Clear drainage grates, tree wells, and landscaped areas of litter and obstructions.
• Report or remove fire hazards, broken furniture, and any unsafe conditions.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow manufacturer directions when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Adhere to all Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) guidelines and school safety regulations.
• Operate power equipment safely, including floor polishers, scrubbers, shampooers, vacuums, lawn mowers, edgers, and sweepers.
• Maintain 100% compliance with school safety policies and promptly report all hazards.

• Receive, check, and distribute custodial and instructional supplies; store deliveries, including summer grocery orders.
