About the role

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe powers businesses all over the world. We process payments, run marketplaces, detect fraud, help entrepreneurs start an internet business from anywhere in the world, build world-class developer-friendly APIs, and more. The Stripe Dashboard (Stripe’s logged-in web application) is the integral way our merchants interact with Stripe. Merchants of all sizes across the globe rely on the Dashboard to understand their business and conduct critical business functions.

We’re building the future of Stripe’s Dashboard experience that can scale with Stripe’s ambitions to serve an increasingly wider range of merchants, user types, products, modalities, and geographies. To do that, we’re investing in the underlying platform—laying down strong foundations, crafting a system that’s composable, highly configurable, and built for extensibility from day one. And, doing all this while delivering a simplified, frictionless product experience with high attention to detail.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for an experienced frontend engineer who can not only architect and code solutions, but also collaborate on a vision for what the UI platform for the rest of the Stripe teams should look like. Your work will enable all product teams at Stripe to quickly ship high quality experiences in the Dashboard, built upon the foundational UI elements that this team builds and ships. Your decisions will have a significant impact on Stripe and the direct experience millions of people have with Stripe daily.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, evolve, and maintain the foundational frontend platform used by all of Stripe’s product engineering teams.
  • Work with product teams to understand their needs and pain points when building UI.
  • Scope and lead large technical projects with enormous impact across many teams at Stripe.
  • Work closely with cross functional partners (product, design, data science, UXR, go-to-market) in shaping and shipping product experiences.
  • Manage priorities, identify and highlight risks, and help keep overall project on track.
  • Contribute to large ongoing projects on multiple fronts (architecture/design, code reviews, quality assurance and incident management).
  • Mentor junior engineers in their technical careers to help them grow.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • Strong technical background, including 4+ years of experience with complex frontend systems.
  • Experience building multiple single page web applications that have reached hundreds of thousands of users and/or have had hundreds of contributors.
  • Experience collaborating across engineering teams that are customers as well as teams that your team depends on.
  • A strong sense of what excellent web-based experiences look like, how they behave, and how to build them.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience building or using design systems based on a component library like React, Vue, web components, etc.
  • Experience building or using backend frameworks to create REST or GraphQL backends for single page web apps.
  • Thinks in systems—we’re not interested in solving for just today’s problems as much as building the systems that can help us scale to next decade of problems
  • An opinion on CSS in JavaScript.
  • A passion for teaching and making others more productive.
  • A willingness to get into the unglamorous details of building modern web apps.
