PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Aurora Police Department is accepting Entry Level Patrol Officer applications to establish the 2026-1B Group A Certified Eligibility List for the projected academy that starts on January 12, 2026, and ends on July 9, 2026. 

The academy dates are subject to change.  

The deadline to submit an application is July 14, 2025, at 11:59 PM.

The Aurora Police Department is looking for individuals who represent diversity in thought and experiences, which are shared by our citizens. Candidates must have strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Candidates should possess good interpersonal skills, common sense, and have the ability to problem solve.

Examples of Duties

A comprehensive list of a police officer's duties is not possible, but officers working within the Aurora Police Department perform some of the following functions:

  • Handle (emergency and non-emergency) calls for service received by our Communications Center.

  • Investigate and determine what type of, or if, crimes have occurred.

  • Make sound decisions using knowledge, training and experience.

  • Positively interact with the public.

  • Problem solves complex community issues and look for innovative solutions to reduce repeat calls for service.

Salary:

If hired with a start date in 2025, the hiring rate for Patrol Officer Grade IV is $32.67068 hourly/$67,955 annually.

If hired with a start date in 2026, the hiring rate for Patrol Officer Grade IV is $33.65385 hourly/$70,000 annually.

This position is considered non-exempt.  You will be eligible for overtime per the Fair Standards Labor Act.

The comprehensive breakdown of the rates of pay per the 2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) contract is listed below.

  • Grade IV: $32.67068 hourly/$67,955 annually

  • Grade III: $36.18943 hourly/$75,274 annually

  • Grade II: $39.98750 hourly/$83,174 annually

  • Grade I: $43.96635 hourly/$91,450 annually

The comprehensive breakdown of the rates of pay per the 2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) contract is listed below.

  • Grade IV: $33.65385 hourly/$70,000 annually

  • Grade III: $37.27500 hourly/$77,532 annually

  • Grade II: $41.18702 hourly/$85,669 annually

  • Grade I: $45.72452 hourly/$95,107 annually

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BE OFFERED AN OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN THE AURORA POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE PRE-HIRE PROGRAM PRIOR TO THE ACADEMY START DATE.  THE SALARY IS IDENTICAL TO THE PATROL OFFICER GRADE IV PAY AT 40 HRS/WEEK.
