The Clinical Practice Specialist for Nursing is directly responsible for the professional competency oversight and professional development of the nurse practitioners, nursing and certified nursing aides, students, and nursing interns. This role serves as a member of the clinical operations team to facilitate best practices and address concerns/problems associated with the delivery of clinical services. This role will actively participate in the orientation of new clinical staff to include all disciplines of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring orientation processes meet all regulatory requirements. Collaborates with academic institutions for clinical site placements and supervision of students across disciplines related to hospice and palliative care to assure appropriate clinical experience.
Office Location: Waldorf, MD
Coverage Area: This position will cover primarily our southern region - Charles and Calvert Counties, but may be asked to travel to other counties.
Status: Full-time – 40 hours/week
Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience, education and credentialing
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designs and executes Hospice of the Chesapeake’s Education Program in collaboration with the Psychosocial/Spiritual Care Practice Specialist. This includes position specific orientation programs, competency evaluations, required annual training, continuing education programs and other topics as identified for interdisciplinary staff.
- Performs competency assessments and contributes when appropriate to annual performance evaluations for all NP’s, nursing and nursing aides in collaboration with clinical management which may also include remediation or performance improvement plans for staff.
- Participates in planning and presentation of New Employee Orientation.
- Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure education files are up to date at all times to ensure compliance with educational regulations.
- Collaborates with Clinical Managers to determine training and coaching needs on best practices of documentation based on nursing and aide audit outcomes. Coordinates with clinical management when remediation is needed.
- Serves as a mentor to new and current employees in a capacity which may require direct patient care. Through mentorship, moves clinical employees, from the position of novice to intermediate clinician, to skilled clinician in end-of-life care with an expectation that all clinical staff practice at the highest level of competency for their discipline and according to the standards of practice.
- Supervises nursing/aide students to meet their on-site learning objectives in collaboration with their learning institution. Coordinates with institutions of higher learning for student placement requirements when applicable. Coordinates with Clinical teams for students to engage in patient care experiences.
- Responsible for working collaboratively with all departments in the design, evaluation, revision and provision of instruction.
- Assists in the maintenance of the on-line learning platforms, including Relias. Works collaboratively with other departments to maximize the tracking capabilities in the on-line learning platform.
- Maintains the clinical simulation environment and resources; collaborates with Clinical departments to coordinate skills demonstrations/evaluation to improve/maintain safety and delivery of quality care.
- Develops curriculum or course materials in response.
- Works collaboratively with clinical leaders to design, implement, evaluate and revise educational modules and resources.
- Conduct ELNEC-based and/or Core Competency-based training incorporating the standards of professional practice (which may include advanced end of life care delivery principles, APC-BCC guidelines, NHPCO standards for practice, and others)
- Supports and participates in QAPI /performance improvement activ
