ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides Surgical assistance in the operating room upon request to any surgeon with a delegation agreement and as assigned by the Clinical coordinator of APPs/designee.
Develops laparoscopic and DaVinci robotic first assist skills.
Performs daily post-operative rounding and facilitate/coordinate care of the patient as requested by the supervising physician.
Responsible for admission History and Physical examinations, daily progress notes, daily orders, discharge, transfer and death summaries, discharge/transfer orders and prescriptions for all patients admitted to them by the attending surgeon.
Conducts evaluations of patients in the Emergency Department and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon.
Assists credentialed practitioners of bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement and peripherally inserted central catheters.
Supports Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital including medication reconciliation, universal time out procedures, SCIP, VTE prevention, and electronic documentation.
Supports timely, accurate and compliant professional billing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate from a PA program that is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA).
Passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
Must maintain current licensing as Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland.
Must qualify for prescriptive authority (Controlled Drug Substance [CDS] and Drug Enforcement Agency [DEA]).
Must have the ability to work in both the operating room and inpatient units
Must maintain BLS Certification.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Must function well in a team environment.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The PA-1 will report directly to the Clinical Supervisor APPs and Primary Supervising Physician registered with the State of Maryland.
Patient care responsibilities are delegated to the PA through a formal delegation agreement with the attending physician known as the alternate supervising physician. All direct patient care decisions must be made in conjunction with the alternate supervising physician as mandated by Maryland Law.
The Alternate Supervising Physician will report directly to the Vice President for Medical Affairs.
Shifts are scheduled through the Clinical Supervisor for APPs or designee.
