About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

The Application Engineer Manager, Liquid Cooling provides advanced technical expertise to the Sales team and customers during the sales process with a focus on liquid cooling. This individual contributor role serves as a conduit between the field and national sales team members and internal departments such as engineering, offering management, etc. to develop and recommend products and services to meet customers’ requirements. Technical support includes but is not limited to assistance with performance calculation tools, application guidance, review, and processing of Engineer-To-Order (ETO) special features, processing change orders, and providing technical input into bid proposals, projects, and technical documents within the sales process.  As a senior member of the applications engineering team, this role not only mentors other team members, but will take the lead on projects and the resolution of complex issues. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support liquid cooling sales efforts through local and national sales teams including:
    • Providing guidance on correct application of units for optimal operation or acceptable operation in non-optimal situations.
    • Perform equipment selections and technical calculations to meet requirements for individual components and complete liquid cooling systems.
    • Address questions on control for individual components and complete liquid cooling systems. 
    • Assist in correct application and processing of ETO special features for liquid cooling components.
    • Apply Quote Configurator tool to provide quoting support when sales team members require assistance.
    • Review ETO special features and provide technical guidance in processing ETO requests including directing work orders to correct.
    • Implement CO requests via Quote Configurator tool adjustments. 
    • Engage engineering and offering management to address customer and/or sales questions regarding physical characteristics, operations, options, or capability of any piece of liquid cooling equipment.
    • Take the lead on resolving complex customer issues that arise. 
  • Create and develop ROI (Return on Investment Analysis), project submittals, MOPs and any other technical information required by sales organization to successfully win orders.
  • Oversee unit performance testing for projects including test script development, testing procedure, and presentation of testing results to customer. 
  • Provide monthly updates on quote requests, turnaround times, and closure rates for requests.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, RFP to determine best solutions for customer needs.
  • Participate in new product development projects.
  • Travel to project sites and customer locations to gain deeper understanding of product installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Help develop and document best practices and continuous improvement initiatives for the department. 
  • Provide mentorship and training to less-experienced team members. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

  • 8+ years relevant experience in data center engineering. 
  • Experience in technical scope review and formal proposal development.
  • Experience in advanced HVAC controls and BMS protocols.
  • Deep technical understanding of data center facilities and infrastructure including power, HVAC, structured cabling, rack management and security/compliance. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented and responsive work.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
  • Ability to read, interpret, modify, and create schematics and one-line diagrams
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM systems. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of ASHRAE, Data Center guidelines and Uptime Institute regulations and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of liquid cooling components and liquid cooling system implementation

 

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial engineering or related technical field. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
