Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Mid-level Environmental Scientist III to join our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team. We are seeking candidates to fill a seconded role as an on-site Health & Safety Specialist for a program in Rancho Cordova, California. This full-time position within our Environmental group will provide and coordinate support related to Health & Safety and Environmental Compliance in a research and development laboratory and office setting. The duration of this position will be contingent upon AECOM maintaining our contract with the client.
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
- Manage and support health, safety and environmental projects and programs, including planning, coordination, execution, and tracking of deliverables to ensure compliance and timely completion.
- Conduct on‑site inspections to evaluate compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., air, water, waste, hazardous materials).
- Review permits, plans, records, and monitoring data to verify adherence to regulatory requirements and permit conditions.
- Identify violations, non‑conformances, and environmental risks, document findings through clear, detailed inspection reports.
- Collect environmental samples (air, water, soil, waste) using standardized protocols and ensure proper chain‑of‑custody.
- Investigate citizen complaints, spill reports, or alleged violations and determine appropriate enforcement or corrective actions.
- Communicate findings and compliance requirements to facility representatives; provide technical guidance on corrective measures and best practices.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders to support enforcement actions, follow‑up inspections, or compliance reviews.
- Maintain inspection records, databases, and tracking systems to ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting.
- Interpret and apply relevant regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA) to inspection activities and compliance determinations.
- Participate in compliance assistance outreach, training sessions, or stakeholder meetings to promote environmental stewardship and regulatory awareness.
- Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.
- Performing complex assignments often requires the development of unique solutions to problems.
- Participating in internal and client required calls.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS in related sciences.
- 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in supporting environmental projects related to health and safety and environmental compliance.
