THE ROLE

The Benefits Manager role will oversee the management and administration of employee health, wellness, leave and retirement benefit plans for the United States employee base at Sotheby’s. The role will coordinate across teams to execute the US annual plan design review and open enrollment process, including vendor negotiations, budgeting, compliance, implementation, and employee communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set the strategy and oversee benefits plan design in partnership with the Head of Total Rewards
  • Serve as the strategic partner to the Systems team regarding the maintenance and development of the BenefitsFocus module in SuccessFactors
  • Advise employees on benefit plan policies and procedures, responding to employee questions and resolving problems in a timely and efficient manner
  • Administer all aspects of employee leaves of absence (FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, personal); prepare and distribute monthly status reports
  • Review and approve benefits-related invoices on a monthly basis
  • Maintain positive relationships with external vendors (insurance carriers, benefit providers, brokers, consultants, legal counsel, etc.)
  • Coordinate the annual benefits fair and open enrollment process
  • Support the new hire onboarding process in the US, ensuring a seamless enrollment
  • Maintain OSHA Log and related claims; participate in annual WC audit process
  • Prepare annual EEO-1 reports
  • Manage all $401k administration 
  • Provide back-up for the payroll interface process; liaison for Union Local 814 payroll
  • Support global mobility as needed, including international and domestic assignments, one-way domestic and international relocations and immigration. 
  • Keep current on Health Care Reform developments  

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant Benefits experience
  • Strong personal credibility with ability to build trusted relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Highly organized with solid administrative/follow-through skills, detail-oriented.
  • Problem solving skills - ability to analyze, find creative solutions and make recommendations to effectively resolve issues
  • Strong team player with client service orientation; aware of how decisions affect the department and the wider organization
  • Highly discreet with a strong work ethic
  • Knowledge of various employment laws and their impact on HR matters
  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Demonstrated ability to partner within and outside of HR
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills; analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated net positive contributor to company community and culture above and beyond job duties
  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $150,000-$170,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
