Applied Signal Technology (AST) seeks a senior engineer to serve as the Technical Director (TD) for the National Systems Division (NSD). The TD is responsible for NSD technical oversight for existing contracts, NSD IR&D efforts, and to maintain contact with technology advances for future strategies. The TD will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on current AST technologies and their implementation to the customer missions.
What You Will Do
- Maintain a constant coordination with the AST senior fellows and project leads over a wide variety of products and programs to provide systems engineering discipline on new and existing products and incubate new concepts and program solutions for customer needs.
- Directly interface with our customers, senior management, program managers, and cross discipline technical staff to create and coordinate technical solution sets.
- Directly represent AST to support the customers both technical solutions and expert direct support to existing missions.
- Provide NSD level leadership to the AST IR&D planning, execution, results reviews, and the road maps leading to integration into future programs.
- Understand the customer’s organization in addition to their requirements and Concept of Operations (CONOPS) to define architectures, drive technical solutions, and have a programmatic background to assist in the contractual program planning for issues such as cost and schedule estimates.
- Lead and/or assist in a variety of presentations to a broad set of audiences from groups of engineers to the highest level of customer officials.
- Mentor across AST for the staff in both technical diversity and leadership attributes associated with the TD positions.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Generate briefing material and present the material effectively and clearly to multiple leadership levels both in the company and to the customer organizations.
- Grasp new concepts quickly and adeptly and be able to create innovative designs that lead to new business and growth.
- Assist in creating project staffing needs within the engineering matrix to meet critical skills or program subject matter expert needs.
- Consult on new business and technical initiatives, including the generation of white papers, ROMs, and Gate Review packages.
- Considerable travel will be required for this position.
Qualifications You Must Have
- 12+ years combined experience in the defense industry, as lead technical engineer, or experience in direct customer technical interaction, preferably government customers and Systems Engineering experience.
- Expertise in broad technical disciplines of AST and experience with the AST customer base and customer mission objectives.
- Leadership skills with experience leading high technology teams.
- Experience as lead for multiple applications/products/programs.
- Demonstrated success in coordinating complex technologies.
- Knowledge of program management processes for execution of complex proposals and programs.
- Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience
- Active and transferable Top Secret clearance is required prior to start date
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
