Job Description
The intern will work on developing control algorithms to troubleshoot the sub-synchronous oscillation observed in the UNIFI 1-MW multi-vendor grid-forming inverter testbed, and also design the microgrid controller to dispatch the grid-forming, grid-following and diesel generator in the UNIFI 1-MW demo testbed.
Main tasks include:
- Design a control algorithm to detect and identify the sources and modes of sub-synchronous oscillations observed in the UNIFI 1-MW multi-vendor grid-forming inverter testbed. The oscillation varies from 0.5 Hz to 20 Hz. Mitigation solution will be designed to reduce/eliminate the oscillations.
- Design a microgrid controller (EMS) to dispatch 7 grid-forming inverters, 3 grid-following inverters and one diesel generator based on the system objective (e.g., VPP). Implement the control algorithm using python and dispatch all the inverters and the diesel generator through SEL RTAC gateway.
- Write peer-reviewed conference and journal paper(s).
