JOB PURPOSE
The key function of this position is to build strategic partnerships between a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), regulators, governments, industry associations, local community members, and non-profits in order to achieve company objectives. This position must collaborate with multiple functions throughout Nevada Gold Mines (e.g., mine General Managers, strategic planners, permitting, land men, exploration geologists, communications, government affairs, environmental, legal, human resources, and supply chain staff), as well as other operating regions. While this position may support sites and projects anywhere, responsibilities have a Nevada focus.
The other functions of this position include facilitating, leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the Community Development Committees (CDC), including planning and evaluation, procedure/policy development and administration. This position must collaborate with multiple entities and stakeholders including NGM employees, the NGM Community Development Committees, non-profit organizations, industry partners, local government, and local communities including Reno and Las Vegas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities and tasks:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on developing and maintaining strategic partnerships across Nevada in the five sustainable development focus areas: education, environment, health, economic development, and cultural heritage.
- Coordinate with and support mine General Managers and site leadership to align CED strategies with site strategic plans, life of mine plans, expansions, stakeholder engagement, and reputational risks.
- Provide additional support to the Head of Community Engagement and Development in planning, organizing, executing internal and external meetings, and other areas as needed.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual CED reporting.
- Give technical support to the CED team to ensure compliance with NGM policies and procedures.
- Participate in annual internal and external audits as required.
- Assist in the development and oversight of the annual CED budget.
- Participate on local and statewide committees and boards as assigned.
- Own and maintain CED financial commitment register and NGM scholarship tracker
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of CED programs, making adjustments as necessary
- Prepare content for external communication, including newsletters, press releases and social media posts related to CED initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a strategy for the CDCs in collaboration with the Head of Community Engagement and Development
- Pro-actively engage both internal and external stakeholders in the CDC.
- Plan and execute quarterly CDC meetings for Elko/Eureka County, Lander/Humboldt County, and Southern Nevada.
- Project management from start to completion including developing KPI’s and reporting requirements.
- Provide guidance and oversight on strategic partnerships for mines and projects in Nevada.
- Identify and monitor reputational risks associated with mines, projects, vendors, and suppliers and ensure these risks are being managed.
- Lead regional reporting schedule and provide regular updates to the Head of Community Engagement and Development.
- Support the permitting function with social impact assessments and stakeholder engagement.
- Annually review stakeholder engagement planning documents and other governing CED documents.
- Support the Head of Community Engagement and Development in the management of the CED annual budget.
- Support supply chain, exploration, and site-based environmental teams in CSR-related endeavors (such as permitting, local vendor utilization, etc.) as needed.
- Manage grievance mechanism to ensure all complaints/grievances are appropriately documented, resolved and reported through IsoMetrix.
- Assist the Head of Community Engagement and Development with other stakeholder management activities as needed.
- Other responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration or a related area of study or equivalent experience with an emphasis in a closely related field preferred.
Experience
- Seven (7) years’ experience in community engagement/development or CR/CSR.
- Two (2) years’ direct experience in mining OR Five (5) to seven (7) years of related nonprofit experience
- Five (5) years’ program management experience.
