Senior Scientist, High Throughput Automation

Job Description

The Discovery Analytical Research group within Analytical Enabling Capabilities (Analytical R&D) is seeking a highly motivated and technically focused individual interested in a unique role impacting our Company's pipeline from discovery through development, across multiple modalities (small molecule, large molecule, peptides and vaccines).

Key Responsibilities

• Design and conduct high-throughput automated experiments for pre-formulation characterization activities to support drug substance and formulation development.

• Create and deploy new automation capabilities to drive continuous improvements for operational efficiency, miniaturization, predictive sciences and machine learning.

• Utilize their expertise to tackle scientific challenges related to drug-excipient compatibility, enhancing bio-performance with enabled formulation strategies, and physical/biophysical and chemical/biochemical stability of drug candidates.

• Investigate physical/biophysical and chemical/biochemical properties of new drug entities, utilizing automated workflows to define formulation strategies for various drug delivery routes in discovery and development.

• Build technical expertise in automation and characterization; participate in cross-functional technical teams and inter-departmental initiatives.

• Build a strong network internally and across the external academic community and pharmaceutical industry.

• Contribute to a culture of scientific excellence, develop a compliance mindset following safety standards, while utilizing electronic lab notebooks, and collaborate with partners and stakeholders across discovery and development.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline and 8 years of relevant experience

• Masters in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences with a minimum of 5 years relevant industrial experience.

• PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline with 0-3 years of relevant experience.

Experience | Knowledge | Skills

Required

• Experience in programming, executing and troubleshooting automation platforms/robotics (i.e. Tecan, Unchained Labs, Hamilton, Chemspeed, etc.)

• Strong academic record including publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.

• Self-motivated, creative and energetic scientist willing to continually learn and solve complex problems.

• Principled written and verbal communications

Preferred

• Design of experiments, predicative and data sciences

• Experience in liquid chromatography (i.e. reverse phase, SEC, IEX) including method development, trouble shooting and data analysis to interrogate solubility, dissolution, and stability.

• Physical/Biophysical analysis (i.e. x-ray powder diffraction, dynamic light scattering, micro-flow imaging, back-membrane imaging particle characterization, differential scanning fluorimetry).

• Familiarity with computer programming (Python, Visual Basic, etc.)
