About The Role:
This role as Business Affairs Associate will be responsible for reviewing, negotiating, drafting business terms and managing agreements with domestic and international licensees for our Consumer Products team and Global Content Distribution team which focuses on title distribution and extending the growing slate of anime brands that Crunchyroll represents into physical/digital products and experiences.
You will skillfully negotiate and review agreements balancing the appropriate business risks. This role will report to the Business Affairs Director, and work in partnership with our Consumer Products Group, Global Content Distribution team as well as Legal, Finance, the Content team, and other global stakeholders to license distribution rights such as TV Broadcast rights, SVOD/AVOD rights, merchandising rights of our content to domestic and international licensees. The successful candidate is a critical thinker, proactive, effective communicator able to interpret and explain contractual requirements relative to associated risks, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast paced, constantly evolving entertainment industry.
A day in the life of our Business Affairs Associate:
- Negotiation of merchandise licensing agreements and content licensing agreements including TV Broadcast and SVOD/AVOD deals with domestic/international licensees.
- Work closely with the Consumer Products Team and Global Content Distribution Team and Legal Team to ensure all negotiated terms and requirements are reflected in the agreement as well as ensure that all licensee activities and brand representation are aligned with what has been granted and approved by the IP holders in Japan.
- Communicate any contractual risks to internal departments including the Consumer Products Group, Global Content Distribution Team, the Content Team, Legal, Finance and international affiliate companies.
- Track deal terms and update negotiation status on internal tracking systems.
- Provide general business counsel and support in a rapidly changing business environment.
- Other duties as designated by management.
About You:
- You have 3+ years of licensing and/or business affairs experience in an international company. Experience in animation, entertainment, consumer products, content licensing, or video game industry is a plus!
- You are skilled in drafting deal terms and interpreting licensing agreements.
- Experience negotiating rights, analyzing risk and developing process regarding business affairs contracts and licenses.
- You have the ability to communicate in a concise and clear way, both written and verbally.
- Strong attention to detail is a must!
- You are motivated and pro-active with an entrepreneurial attitude, yet you are comfortable working within a structured environment.
- You are a strong team player and can communicate in a multi-cultural environment.
- Passion for Anime, Japanese culture, Entertainment industry with an understanding of Japanese business culture. Japanese language proficiency is a huge plus.
- Highly skilled at drafting deal terms and interpreting licensing agreements.
