Finance Assistant
Position Summary
Provides support for the Administrative Services Office in the Chemistry Department services, including the Business Office, Research Services; activities include but are not limited to processing orders for teaching, research, and administration; reviews and verifies records for accuracy and compliance matters; ensures availability of funds for related Financial transactions; provides support for the reconciliation of financial records; acquires and maintains knowledge on procurement and research awards through interaction with MSU Purchasing and Logistics and Contract and Grant Administration after consultation with relative Chemistry administrators and by reading and interpreting a variety of contracts, agreements, and policy and best practices ; serves as a resource person to administrators, faculty, staff and students; creates and maintains physical and computerized records; assists in the development of the operational functions of a large, dynamic department; functions independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation and webpage software; typing and filing; maintaining accounting ledgers; may require knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical knowledge or training related to the field of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Ability to work well with others, pay close attention to detail, and follow through on tasks; ability to manage/coordinate multiple tasks and work successfully with faculty, academic scholars, and staff. Five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an academic office setting; experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; a self-starter whose strengths include creative thinking and problem solving, teamwork, and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a fast paced and deadline-oriented environment; knowledge of University policies and procedures for MSU’s financial functions.
