The Production Lead - 2nd shift is responsible for coordinating and efficiently executing all production activities as directed by the Production Manager. The Production Lead provides leadership and guidance to the 2nd shift team to ensure safety, quality and productivity objectives are consistently met.Essential functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
- Working with Plant Management, set production goals that deliver quality-driven products and communicate the goals/quality standards to direct reports.
- Manage/evaluate machine resources to ensure production lines are running to required specification to achieve production goals and effectively identify and minimize downtime.
- Review production efficiencies and evaluate improvements in order to achieve optimum operations.
- Ensure efficient and timely startup of daily production operation.
- Ensure production staff understand production goals for the shift and have all necessary materials available to meet daily goals. When necessary, assist production staff to maintain efficient workflow of production line(s).
- Ensure production lines are staffed to match production goals and optimize efficiency. Communicate any staffing needs to Production Manager.
- Effectively communicate problems or obstacles with Production Manager/Plant Manager.
- Develop effective work schedules to maximize equipment capacities at optimum staffing levels
- Communicate any machine problems or deficiencies in a timely manner to maintenance staff working on the line and/or Production Manager.
- Be present in the work area and address employee questions/concerns. Provide motivation, guidance and support for each employee owner through positive communication and coaching.
- Provide effective training for new hires and existing employee owners.
- Ensure all employee owners adhere to and consistently follow SQF guidelines, safety rules and company policies and procedures.
- Communicate and administer company rules, policies and procedures consistently and equitably through timely, tactful feedback. Escalate any issues of non-compliance to Production Manager.
- Accurately complete required paperwork.
- Complies with company safety policies and maintains clean and orderly work area and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures, including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
WHAT WE NEED
MUST-HAVES:- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 (three) or more years’ direct experience as a production lead in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to work well with all levels of employees whether individually or in a team environment. Effectively communicate questions, problems and reports to direct reports, co-workers, supervisory and management personnel.
- Flexibility to accommodate unscheduled changes in duties and work overtime as needed.
- Must be able to effectively manage time and delegate responsibilities as needed.
- Must be able to effectively plan and organize workload.
- Ability to handle stress of deadlines and constantly changing priorities
- Proven experience in training/coaching/mentoring direct reports in a one-on-one basis as well as in a group setting.
- Must understand mechanical equipment.
- Must be proactive and continuously looking for improvements in the production area.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel) and basic office equipment such as calculators and copiers.
- Basic math skills.
- A bachelor's degree in related field and/or five years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, strongly preferred.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
- Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Lift, carry and/or move items up to 50 pounds, without assistance; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls,
