Maintenance Technician II

Stonhard is seeking a motivated self-starter Maintenance Technician II to support manufacturing operations at its Ft Wayne facility. This role is a senior hands-on technician position responsible for advanced troubleshooting, preventive and predictive maintenance, mentoring Maintenance Technician I employees, and supporting equipment reliability across batch, mixing, material handling, and packaging systems.
The Maintenance Technician II plays a key role in transitioning the site from reactive maintenance to a planned, reliability-focused maintenance culture.
Essential Functions
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial manufacturing equipment including:
- Mixers, batch systems, hoppers, augers, screw conveyors, pumps, and packaging equipment
- Conveyors, motors, gearboxes, bearings, drives, and material handling systems
- Perform advanced preventive and predictive maintenance activities in accordance with PM schedules
- Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic controls issues
- Perform welding and fabrication as required (MIG/TIG/Stick; cutting and grinding)
- Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability
- Mentor and support Maintenance Technician I employees through hands-on coaching and knowledge sharing
- Assist with maintaining critical spare parts, inventory accuracy, and storage standards
- Accurately document work orders, PMs, and corrective actions in the CMMS
- Coordinate and monitor work performed by outside contractors and service providers
- Respond to equipment alarms and unplanned downtime events
- Support safety initiatives, lockout/tagout procedures, and housekeeping standards
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, safety, and cost reduction

Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing industrial manufacturing equipment
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills in an industrial environment
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, drawings, and basic blueprints
- Working knowledge of motors, gear reducers, bearings, belts, chains, and drives
- Basic computer skills (CMMS, Microsoft Office)
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift during extended shifts
- Very detail-oriented and knowledgeable of tool usage
Preferred Requirements
- Technical certificate in Industrial Maintenance
- Experience in batch manufacturing, coatings, flooring, or chemical-based processes
- Welding experience (MIG, TIG, Stick, cutting, brazing)
- Basic electrical troubleshooting (motors, starters, sensors, VFD awareness)
- Experience supporting preventive maintenance programs and reliability initiatives
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation standards
Physical Requirements
- Must be capable of wearing Company standard respirators as qualified by a fit test performed by an authorized agency
