Your New Role
Warner Bros. Discovery seeks a Sr. Counsel to advise internal clients on the resolution of content production-related employment law issues in a manner that best minimizes potential legal liability while advancing operational business goals. Partners with representatives from People & Culture, Legal Affairs, Labor Relations, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Compliance, Communications, among others, to resolve claims and litigation matters, oversee internal investigations, and develop, implement, and interpret company policies, procedures, and programs per best practice and applicable laws.
Your Role Accountabilities
- Researches and responds (both verbally and in writing) to inquiries from People & Culture and other corporate business partners regarding employment law issues of every type, including statutory EEO matters, employee discipline, disability leaves and accommodation, reorganizations and reductions in force, diversity and inclusion, and wage and hour issues.
- Represents the Company and its affiliates in both adversarial (administrative, arbitral, and court hearings) and cooperative dispute resolution proceedings.
- Analyzes, drafts, negotiates, reviews, and revises agreements, policies, and programs that govern employment and contingent worker relationships.
- Supervises internal EEO investigations.
- Ensures that employment-related claims are addressed promptly and thoroughly and are resolved in a manner designed to minimize potential liability.
- Responds to third-party communications, including demand letters and administrative investigative complaints.
- Develops and presents training workshops on harassment prevention, respectful workplace, diversity and inclusion, and other employment law-related topics.
- Partners with Labor Relations to resolve issues relating to union affiliated employees.
- Supervises and/or partners with outside counsel to manage adversarial proceedings in the most effective and cost-conscious manner.
- Supervises clerical subordinates in the performance of legal-related tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5 years practicing labor and employment law with a national law firm or in a corporate legal department; experience at a major studio, network, or content service provider or platform preferred.
- Litigation experience required; trial experience preferred.
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required
- Member of the California State Bar (or another state bar with the ability to obtain registered in-house counsel status in California); must be in good standing
- Interest in developing legal transactional skills, including negotiating, drafting, analyzing, and interpreting contracts.
- Must be able to research legal questions and communicate responses effectively to all levels of corporate and production staff.
- Ability to problem solve in efficient, business-friendly, creative manner.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to write in a well-organized, concise and precise manner.
- Ability to build strong internal client relationships with personnel of all levels, effectively advise senior-level executives and production partners, and produce strong client and partner satisfaction through practical and strategic thinking.
- Must be agile, proactive, and highly motivated; must have positive, team-oriented attitude, excellent judgment, ability to handle high volume of work with minimal supervision and to assess risk, make decisions and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
