On-Call Food Services Assistant - Head Start

Head Start Food Service Assistants support Head Start or Early Head Start classrooms by providing food pick up and/or delivery, food preparation, food service, and dishwashing. This is a school-year position, working up to 29 hours per week September-June.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

• Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
• Driver qualification status required for this position. Valid driver license and insured vehicle available for use on the job and satisfactory driver record for previous five years.
• Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification and Food Handler's card.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.

• Prepares and serves snacks and lunches provided by contracted suppliers or agency Site Cooks.
• Assists children in preparing and serving snacks and lunches, allowing children to participate as much as possible.
• Participates in family style meal experiences and nutrition experiences which enhance the social and emotional growth of children and encourages parents and community members to be involved.
• Helps ensure that kitchen and food service meets Health Department requirements including safe and sanitary food conditions, maintaining proper food temperature, proper storage of food, and other health requirements.
• Helps maintain clean, sanitary and safe kitchen and food areas.
• Helps maintain and submit accurate and complete records for all snacks, lunches, special meals and required reports for USDA food services according to program deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Use of kitchen equipment including, but not limited to range, oven, steamer, dishwasher, and various kitchen utensils; occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Employee will be standing for the majority of the work day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Indoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands.
• Variable and flexible work hours.
• Work environment is occasionally warm, humid and temperatures vary (particularly in/near refrigerators and freezers and appliances).
• Potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other conditions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face coverings may be required.
