Description
The Medical Assistant (MA) reports to the Clinic Manager and supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings; assists in the examination and treatment of patients in a fast pace Primary Care setting. The Medical Assistant maintains patient flow to ensure patient care is provided in an orderly and timely manner. Four 10 hours days.
Responsibilities:
· Performs routine clinical tasks.
· Completes patient intake, document immunizations on logs, and processes all orders in NextGen, electronic health record.
· Assists with visual and/or audio screenings and documentation thereof.
· Assists with minor procedures.
· Prepares forms related to patient care and services.
· Prepares exams room for providers.
· Coordinates referral with referral clerks.
· Processes prior authorizations for medications.
· Prepares and administers vaccines.
· Completes prescription refills utilizing standing orders/per provider.
· Sterilizes and cleans instruments. Maintains the sterilization inventory.
· Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
· Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
· Must follow Scope of Practice for Certified Medical Assisting as outlined in the Official California Code of Federal Regulations.
· Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including; HIPAA, sexual harassment, scope of practice, OSHA, etc.
Skills and Abilities:
· Excellent computer skills, preferably with Windows, including Microsoft Office Suite
· Excellent telephone and communication skills
· Must possess excellent organizational, writing, and verbal skills.
· Ability to work independently, set priorities, and work well under pressure.
· Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
· Ability to demonstrate superior professionalism when dealing with patients, subordinates, colleagues, community members and vendors.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited institution.
· Back Office Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in an FQHC setting
· Knowledge of traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of the diverse AI/AN community, as well as ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethnically, and financially diverse populations.
· Bilingual
· Experience with Nextgen or other electronic health record system.
· Active certification from a Medical Assistant Certifying Board (Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
