Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the Databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS (open source software) offerings.
Azure Cosmos DB is one of the fastest growing Azure services that provides globally distributed, low-latency, massively scalable, multi-model cloud database service. It is designed to enable developers to build planet-scale applications.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who is passionate about cloud databases and who likes taking data driven decisions and building innovative solutions to support the business growth. You will be responsible for building and optimizing solutions to build Cosmos DB services at scale. You will collaborate with engineers on the team and across services in Azure to architect, design and implement reliable, low-latency solutions for Cosmos DB services. You will work across the stack to convert vision into a high quality, shipped feature.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement the next phase of features of Cosmos DB to help propel the next wave of fundamental capabilities for Cosmos DB.
- Develop a technical direction for features which may also require driving cross-cutting initiatives across multiple layers of the Cosmos DB technology stack.
- Stay updated on recent trends on the database world, and be open to experimenting with promising trends on the request processing that might open up new avenues of growth for Cosmos DB.
- Provide guidance and mentor engineers, enabling them to succeed in the team and the space.
- Conduct code reviews and help shape and steer the team coding guidelines.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related tech
