A Day in the Life

The Structural Heart & Aortic (SH&A) Project Management Office (PMO) leader will provide leadership and management of SH&A New Product Development (NPD) programs and projects to ensure the timely delivery of products, solutions, and services.
This role is expected to lead a team of program managers and directors leading the development of new product capabilities, features, and solutions that support business strategies and initiatives.
There are 3 primary responsibilities of the SH&A PMO leader:
1) Portfolio Management: Drive development of the entire SH&A portfolio, generate supply/demand scenarios, facilitate resource allocation decisions, and ensures overall alignment with the SH&A strategic priorities.
2) Program Execution: Delivers consistent and predictable program execution across the portfolio through use of project management strategies and tactics.
3) Functional Excellence: Continuously improves the overall PMO skills, capabilities, and tools.

Portfolio Management:

  • Strong project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices including but not limited to Work Breakdown Structures, Scheduling, and schedule Monte Carlo assessments.

  • Work with Functional leaders, Core Team Leaders, Core Team Members and all functions to assess and maintain the near-term and long-term health of the portfolio

  • Strong business acumen, ability to think and act from an overall “best for the business” perspective.

  • Strong financial acumen with ability to establish and manage project budgets within guidelines and understand trade-offs across programs.

  • Ensure that teams coming to PRC have met business and compliance requirements

  • Ensure contracts show performance expectations and confidence

  • Works cross-functionally to successfully introduce new programs into the portfolio

  • Assess contracts for fit with resources and OU spending targets

  • Assess portfolio health (supply and demand) and take course corrections as needed to keep the portfolio healthy.

  • Support scenario work required to optimize desired programs given staffing constraints identified in 10Q and AOP.

Program Execution:

  • Accountable for projects within portfolio and makes commitments to meet specific business goals and objectives

  • Ensures that products are launched on time and meet established goals and objectives (per project contracts)

  • Uses leadership skills to ensure that cross-functional resources are assigned and held accountable for task and outcome completion.

  • Accountable for project budget with components that include all investments required to successfully commercialize product.

  • Assesses project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives

Functional Excellence:

  • Define clear initiatives and goals to establish a respected PMO organization across SH&A

  • Leverage change management tools to ensure organizational acceptance of key PMO initiatives

  • Establishes processes and metrics to drive higher quality and schedule predictability

  • Demonstrate expertise in devising and implementing streamlined processes and strategic programs to improve efficiency, timeliness, and productivity while reducing costs and contributing to revenue

  • Mentor, coach and develop project management capabilities across SH&A through a collaborative, learning environment

Required Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of medical device experience.

  • Minimum 7 years direct project management in a leadership capacity

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or sciences

Desired & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others, managing diverse relationships and inspiring others

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills

  • Experience working with global teams cross functionally in a matrixed organization

  • Experience leading development programs of medium to high complexity

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of the product development phase review process in the medical industry
