nSight Surgical is the first machine learning platform that ensures hospital patient safety, and streamlines operative workflow. By recognizing patient safety moments in the operating room, the platform improves both patient safety, and increases efficiency across the entire hospital ecosystem.
As Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for driving both the short and long-term technological directions for nSight’s product, platform and cloud strategy. We are just past the starting line, and that means you’ll be writing code and contributing to the early development. As the team grows you’ll focus on technical and people leadership. Our engineers are self-motivated problem solvers who enjoy being versatile. We adore diversity and encourage healthy debate and discussion.

What We Need Your Help With

• Create and design architectural roadmaps. Building with an eye on future capabilities for both the on-premise product and the cloud-based platform.
• Provide strategic and technical leadership for the engineering team. Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers and contractors while building towards our product and platform vision.
• Ensuring that the technical design achieves the desired quality attributes on security, scalability, resilience and generally accepted engineering standards.
• Update existing architectural documents and design assets, and communicate those across the engineering organization to ensure comprehension and compliance.
• Create integration designs with customer systems as necessary that can satisfy security and data privacy requirements of partner healthcare organizations.
• Collaborate with the Computer Vision and Machine Learning team to integrate AI models and algorithms into the product and platform.

What We Look For

• 7+ years experience developing and architecting cloud, platform, and backend services. 
• Experience leading technical engineering teams to build complex web services on public cloud platforms (AWS preferred) 
• Experience architecting and building complex software and services (such as multi process concurrency) that make full use of large compute budgets on a single machine. 
• Demonstrated excellence in engineering and architecture as evidenced by successful completion of complex technical projects in prior roles. 

Nice To Have

• Knowledge of Rails, Postgres, and the Ruby ecosystem.
• Understanding of healthcare or with HIPAA compliant systems.
• Experience with internet connected physical devices or camera-based systems.
• Worked with on-premise physical computing environments.
