Position Summary:  The Head of Global Government Affairs is responsible for developing, overseeing, and coordinating execution of enterprise government affairs strategies, including trade association activities, policy development, and direct advocacy engagement and lobbying activities. The Head of Global Government Affairs reports directly to the Executive Vice President, Legal & Public Affairs, and serves as part of the leadership team for this integrated department consisting of approximately 70 employees. The role requires a deep understanding of CPChem business and manufacturing processes and strategies, together with substantive expertise in government relations programs, tactics and compliance requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Role modeling the Company’s core values of safety, respect, integrity & drive
  • Understanding and translating business strategy into actionable enterprise government relations strategies, positions and tactics across company stakeholder groups and facilities
  • Driving execution of U.S. federal and state lobbying strategies, as well as international policy competency
  • Managing the global government affairs team and external consultants
  • Influencing constructively, along with other key enterprise leaders, a matrix of internal organizations to set legislative and administrative priorities and key strategic policy positions, and engaging with senior leadership on these issues
  • Remaining informed on and anticipating internal/external business and manufacturing challenges associated with existing and emerging political, legislative and regulatory activity
  • Serving as central resource on emerging political, legislative and regulatory threats and opportunities as well as key political developments or trends that may impact CPChem
  • Establishing enterprise transparency and awareness of relevant U.S. (federal, state and local) and international political, legislative and regulatory issues
  • Maintaining professional and credible relationships with trade association representatives and government offices to protect and advance CPChem’s interests
  • Maintaining transparency and efficient flow of information among internal stakeholders on trade association and other government relations topics
  • Sustaining transparency with CPChem owner organizations to assist in identifying opportunities for collaboration, while simultaneously establishing unique CPChem “voice”
  • Establishing and ensuring compliance with policies and programs covering all aspects of government relations activities and engagement
  • Creating and implementing compliant forums for engagement of government officials to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the organization
  • Collaborating with Communications and other stakeholders to maintain consistent internal and external advocacy and content and an integrated external affairs perspective
  • Acting as the primary administrative point of contact, and sometimes as designated representative, for primary trade associations
  • Supporting President and Chief Executive Officer in their leadership capa
