About This Role

The Senior Application Development (DevOps) Engineer is a highly collaborative role, responsible for improving Efficiency and Effectiveness within all stages of Software/Application Development life cycle. The Senior AppDev Engineer will consult directly with cross-functional departments and IT teams to understand their short- and long-term objectives, Development & Release processes and Development tool platform requirements. Goal of a senior AppDev Engineer would be to ensure development teams have their release processes well designed, tools and platforms are correctly aligned and are able to collaborate effectively. This role would also be responsible to look for automation opportunities in the software development pipelines such as use of Source code repositories, automated code integration & Delivery/Deployment, infrastructure Automation and Integration between various IT systems/tools to drive efficiency, reduce manual efforts and reduce cycle time.  Additionally, this role will help measure and improve the lead time, cycle time and other relevant metrics to enhance business value.

What You’ll Do

• Ensure the AppDev tools platforms are supported well and running without any issues.
• Keep up to date with the industry trends and provide timely communications about health, status, concerns, potential issues related to the AppDev tool platforms.
• Ensure Security, Reliability and Availability of the AppDev Platforms through timely upgrades and patching of the software.
• Manage the teams that supports the AppDev platforms, on a day-to-day basis, in a multi-vendor scenario.
• Provide the AppDev platform support team with technical expertise, process expertise and guidance on solving day to day issues and problems with these systems.
• Identify opportunities for tools’ integration and Automation in the software development pipeline such as use of Source code repositories, Code integration & Delivery (CI/CD), Cloud infrastructure, Deployment and Operations.
• Provide guidance and technical expertise to IT Development and Operations teams from various business functions on the best use of AppDev tool platforms, Automation and Release processes mapping.
• Support creation and execution of roadmaps/plans for AppDev tools in alignment to Biogen’s overall Tool platform strategies, cloud hosting strategies, Security, and compliance guidelines.
• Management of User Accounts, software licenses to ensure optimal utilization of resources and control costs.
• Support adherence to Biogen’s processes, particularly the GxP IT processes relevant to the AppDev tool platforms.

Senior AppDev (DevOps) role is critical to advancement of the DevOps Concepts, it’s Methodologies, Practices to improve Efficiency, increase AppDev tools adoption, improve Collaboration as well as Effectiveness within the IT development & operations teams within various functional areas. This role will be responsible for identifying and implementing best practices when it comes to Selection, Implementation, Management, and Support of the AppDev tool platforms. You will be leading the tool platform support teams, providing the guidance and deep technical expertise as needed. You will also work with top notch vendors of AppDev tool platforms and learn industry best practices, trends etc. DevOps is still evolving, and it is challenging as well exciting to be a key contributor to the success of Biogen.

Qualifications

Required Skills

• Strong Analytical and Communication skills.
• Hands of experience with DevOps Methodologies and Practices.
• Experience of using the AppDev Tool platforms such as Atlassian Jira, GitHub, Jenkins etc.
• System level understanding of tools such as Jira, GitHub, Jenkins (installation, administration, maintenance)
• Hands on experience with Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.), Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) and understanding of various types of implementations.
• Hands-on experience working with servers running Unix/Linux Operating systems and scripting languages. Knowledge of Bash, Python, Shell, JSON, XML etc.
• Experience in collaborating with cross functional IT teams and senior management.
• Ability to explain, train and present to IT teams about tools, DevOps Methodologies and Practices.
• Hands on experience of managing Application support teams and supporting internal customers.
• Solid understanding of Automation best practices, configuration management and CI/CD
• Solid understanding of Release Management and Orchestration.
• Experience working with software vendors, tools evaluation, POCs etc.
