Position Overview:
Alarm.com is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to support our Connected Ecosystem solutions by testing Cellular sensors and other IOT devices on multiple software platforms. This position collaborates with technology teams to ensure our products meet quality standards of functionality and performance. The Senior Quality Engineer position provides an excellent opportunity to be hands-on and engaged in the full product lifecycle and to drive system quality improvements for our offerings.
The ideal candidate will have a college degree, at least 5 years of relevant experience, advanced computer/technology skills, will be able to communicate clearly to all levels of leadership, and will contribute towards product/system improvements to resolve in-field product issues and improve overall product Quality. You should be a self-starter who can work closely with the development team to discover, investigate, report, and validate fixes for issues.
Responsibilities:
- Developing complex test plans and updating test documentation as needed before/during/after testing of major new product and/or feature releases
- Executing tests, tracking defects, and following defects through the resolution process until fix is verified and closed
- Analyzing new product features and assisting in developing testing infrastructure
- Interacting with Developers and Product Management to ensure the quality of the video solution
- Setting up and maintaining test environments and equipment
- Applying test methodology, engineering, and product knowledge in certification of products
- Understanding the customer and how the product will be used by the customer
- Mentor other Quality Engineering Team Members to ensure consistent quality standards across multiple products
Must Haves:
- Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills in a mixed software/hardware environment
- Exceptional communication skills in order to articulate quality assurance practices
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated initiative
- Ability to prioritize multiple overlapping projects and deadlines, maximizing test coverage while minimizing testing effort
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision
- Ability to make decisions based on test results to advise management and customers
- Demonstrates persistence despite adversity
- Proficiency in estimating testing schedules and optimizing test plans
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Information Technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Information Technology
- Ability to drive innovation and improvements to increase product quality
- Experience with functional and regression testing, test planning, test case development
- Strong background in Quality Assurance methodologies
- Working knowledge in defect management and tracking system
- Ability to recognize impacts of individual components in the larger system and analyze risks involved
- Experience with IoT sensor cloud integration, particularly leveraging cellular communication paths.
