We're looking for a compassionate Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to join our Galveston team on a part-time basis. The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) serves as the communication and coordination hub of our Emergency Department. Working alongside physicians, nurses, radiology, laboratory, registration, and environmental services, you'll help ensure patients move efficiently through their visit while supporting accurate documentation, timely communication, and outstanding hospitality.

Patient Flow | Emergency Services | Hospitality-Driven Healthcare
What You'll Do as the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will:
- Coordinate patient flow throughout the Emergency Department
- Build and organize patient charts while ensuring documentation is accurate and complete
- Assist physicians and nursing staff with order processing and clinical documentation
- Coordinate laboratory, radiology, and MRI orders while communicating with multiple departments
- Monitor patient orders and ensure timely completion of diagnostic testing
- Prepare transfer documentation for patients requiring a higher level of care
- Answer department phones and communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and staff
- Notify Environmental Services when patient rooms are ready for turnover
- Help maintain accurate logs and department documentation
- Anticipate the needs of the clinical team and provide administrative support throughout each shift

Qualifications for the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous healthcare or medical office experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology required
- Strong computer and documentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Successful completion of departmental orientation and competency requirements
