The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

 

The candidate will be an individual who is excited about NASA's mission to launch the most powerful rocket ever built-in pursuit of the return to the Moon and reaching Mars. The right candidate will be highly organized and have experience in maintaining space flight ground support equipment. The candidate should be a highly motivated individual with excellent organizational skills under minimal oversight. They will provide leadership for Ground Support Equipment in the Mechanical, and Structures Engineering (HMSE) department.

 

 

Responsibilities

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • 4 years of experience with Ground Support Equipment maintenance is required.
  • Highly organized under minimal oversight is required.
  • 4 years of experience in MAXIMO is desired.
  • Experience in the Space Industry is desired.
  • Leadership skills highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working as a member of a formal team and able to function as such.
  • Understand and learn hardware configurations and processes.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Internet browsers, and outlook. 
  • Contributes to team effort by mentoring team members and documenting quality processes.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – External

High School Diploma or equivalent; four years related experience.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements

  • Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
  • Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
  •  Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.

 Work Environment

  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
  • Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
  • Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

 Equipment and Machines

  • Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.
  • Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related compute
