This is a PRN position and entails an average of 20 hours per week of work. This will entail at least half of the hours on campus and one Saturday per quarter (approximately 3 hours) to conduct the bariatric surgery support group. This position would also participate in the Surgery Review Board which meets weekly to review high risk patients for bariatric surgery and any special needs or additional recommendations for successful surgery.
What You Will Do
Provide medical nutrition therapy and evaluate effectiveness of treatment.
- Assess patient for nutritional status. Provide intervention/treatment including diet therapy, counseling or specialized nutrition supplements.
- Collaborate with physician, nursing and ancillary service such as speech pathology or physical therapy.
- Monitor tolerance and effectiveness of nutritional regimen and recommend therapy adjustments as necessary.
- Provide nutrition information for the community that may include public speaking, news releases and other forms of publication.
- Research and take initiative to resolve nutrition care related complaints and problems.
- Assist in monitoring meals including intake, diet compliance and tray accuracy. Maintain sanitation of food preparation area(s) through planned and unannounced inspection.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American HeartAssociation or American Red Cross accepted.
- Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Examiners For Dietetics andNutritionists obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Educator specializing in Diabetes Management preferred.
Education:
- High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
