JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State is searching for a full time Locksmith - Hardware Maintenance Worker - Grade 5 to join the team. Duties include:
Perform operations in shop and campus buildings
- Diagnose problems of jammed locks and other lock and hardware problems, utilizing standard procedures if available or using own initiative as necessary
- Dismantle locks, repair and replace springs, pins, various parts on various types of doors and equipment; perform required repair and maintenance operations on automobile locks and ignition switches
- Use a variety of small hand tools
- Recombinate locks following established procedure or developing new combinations as necessary
- Answer emergency calls to open locks, remove broken keys, remove foreign objects, relieve stuck locks, open safes, lubricate using graphite, etc.
- Operate electric or manual key cutting or stamping machines to produce new or duplicate keys
- Dismantle door checks, diagnose trouble and determine extent of repairs needed; replace and fit worn or broken parts; rebuild door checks if necessary; adjust and align various hardware on doors as necessary; perform necessary alterations to doors to accommodate new type hardware, often involving carpentry work; replace hydraulic fluid when required
- Occasionally fabricate springs or other parts for locks or other items of equipment
- Perform a variety of operations to service, maintain, repair, replace, ease, or adjust windows and doors in buildings
- Repair, replace or install various accessories and rest room dispensers including locks and fittings
- Maintain workshop and shop area in a clean and orderly manner
- Detect and report unusual conditions to Group Leader
- Perform other duties related or similar to the type described above
Job Requirements: Requires the use of some shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, tables and various types of precision measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular of specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 up to and including 3 years of effective experience.
Work Schedule: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Days Off: Saturday, Sunday
