JOB MISSION:

This position is responsible for maintaining New Balance’s Environmental, Health and Safety Programs to ensure associate safety, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices to support the operations at all assigned sites. 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state & local environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Conduct and/or validate accident investigations to determine root cause and proactive solutions
  • Apply ergonomic principles to improve workstations & minimize injuries.
  • Support Early Symptom Intervention and Industrial Athlete Programs, and act as a liaison between plant management and workers compensation case management to support return-to-work
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to implement control measures and improve workplace conditions, including air monitoring, ventilation assessments, and noise level evaluations for hearing conservation.
  • Prepares and submits environmental reports and plans as directed, i.e. SPCC, TURA
  • Obtain and maintain necessary environmental permits as required, i.e. air and industrial discharge
  • Oversee hazardous waste programs as assigned, ensuring regulatory compliance through regular audits, and adherence to storage, handling, and disposal requirements.
  • Coordinate and conduct associate EH&S training, lead site EH&S audits and maintain EH&S records
  • Organize and lead monthly GEMBA walks to identify and implement process improvements, enhance operational efficiency, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Loss Prevention and Facilities Management to identify & address EHS issues related to equipment/site design/ installation.
  • Support management of the chemical inventory and purchasing system, track and manage chemical usage, conduct regular compliance audits, and train employees on proper chemical handling.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • BS/MS in Environmental Studies, Industrial Safety and Hygiene, or other related fields.
  • Strong background in industrial and R+D EH&S programs with a minimum of 6 years in the field
  • Excellent technical skills and the ability to work both independently and collectively
  • Good computer skills in Word, Excel, Project,  and building management databases
  • Training and certifications in OSHA, DOT, and RCR
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification desirable
