 JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary of Duties

The controls project engineer is responsible for the following functions in energy management projects: development of scope of work, producing control submittals, wiring diagrams, sequences of operations (SOPs), schedules, graphics, engineering documents/checklists, programming necessary to implement the project, and at times performing remote/on-site checkouts/commissioning.

Job-related contact can occur virtually with all demographic groups, with many daily contacts being with CMS Controls employees and departmental customers.

Duties Include:

• Create project shop drawings per project documentation and customer standards
• Read and understand project specifications and MEP drawing sets
• Select materials including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers, and valves to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes, and customer standards.
• Submit material order forms for all project required materials to project manager or purchasing group
• Communicate with technicians and subcontractors to develop as-built documentation
• Participating on job takeoffs and developing technical plan to achieve the project scope
• Developing, evaluating, and testing project programs to ensure they meet the specified sequence of operations and that they perform according to industry standards
• Design system architecture
  • Ensure IP networking is fully aligned and illustrated prior to field implementation
  • Configure plan for remote access via VPNs, cellular modems, or Tosibox
• Inspect BMS including point-to-point, determining the proper operating ranges for field devices, as well as complete functional system checkouts
• Provide technical design assistance to sales, project managers, field staff, and customers 

Job Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience within the controls industry
• Two or more years of experience with Building Management Systems
• Two or more years of experience with HVAC Systems
• Ability to review, design, and implement building controls functions for HVAC components and graphical interfaces
• Ability to develop sequence of operations for HVAC operation
• Ability to utilize Computer Aided Design programs to develop design documents
• Experience with IOT network protocols (For example, TCP/IP, UDP, BACNET, Modbus, SCADA, etc.)
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to comprehend and implement applicable HVAC related federal, state, and local governmental laws, codes, and regulations
• Current driver’s license
• Ability to represent the company at controls related social activities
• Familiarity with the following computer programs; Microsoft 365 suite
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in drug free workplace program

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
The controls project engineer works in mostly in a typical remote and/or office environment.  Job site visits will occur regularly at commercial buildings, office buildings, schools, hospitals, government buildings and factories. The worksites may be very hot or cold due to the heating and cooling systems yet to be installed. 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

This position is low to moderate physical activity with a regular use of PCs and walking jobsites.  Employee will be required to work from remote sites, some of which could be working from a remote office. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, with typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM hours.  Working past 40 hours per week does occur.

Travel

Daily travel to CMS Controls locations in the greater Atlanta, GA area is required.  Overnight travel will be required at least once per year.

Required Education and Experience

1. Have a high school diploma or GED
2. At least 18 years old
3. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in a drug free workplace
4. Possess a clean driving record and a current driver’s license
5. Strong steady work history with 2+ years minimum performing building automation activities
