Senior Infrared Engineer
Lyten is seeking an experienced Senior Infrared Engineer with a strong background in Infrared (IR) coatings and IR measurements. The successful candidate will lead a cross functional effort on a Department of Defense (DoD) contract evaluating advanced coatings in support of DoD objectives. The successful candidate will be the lead technical interface with the DoD and the contract program manager. A background in IR signature suppression and radiometry is highly desired, as is experience managing DoD contracts. Requires experience in designing, producing and evaluating cutting-edge advanced coatings.
The Senior Infrared Engineer will join a team of experimental staff members who are passionate about developing innovative solutions that can impact the future development and application of electromagnetic devices involving novel meta-surface designs. The selected candidate will lead engineering experiments involving novel materials and combine those efforts with computational tools to build simulations and develop numerical solutions for problems pertaining to the interaction of electromagnetic fields with novel meta-surfaces. This effort will be collaborative and involve a diverse team of on-site and off-site team members. The candidate will collate and present results in an effective and timely fashion. The Senior Infrared Engineer will report to the Senior Director of Strategic Materials.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience OR a master’s degree or higher in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science, AND a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Professional experience in ultraviolet, visible, and infrared science application
- Have a record of creative application of material science knowledge and numerical methods to solve complex problems in electromagnetic field applications.
- Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop processing specifications for fabrication and assembly of new products
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts through verbal and written communications to internal and external customers
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of program management experience
- Experience building models for solving electromagnetic problems using commercial tools.
- Write scientific programs in at least one high-level language (such as C, C++, or JAVA), in addition to MATLAB and/or PYTHON
- Familiarity with tailoring optical thin film coating to control reflection, transmission, and absorption by way of patterning surfaces and designing their effective material properties.
- Experience in coatings material & processes procedures and requirements, be able to author and release updates and original documents and possess extensive experience with strategic coating materials’ application in a research or production environment.
