About the role

Description

The J. Mike Walker '66 Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month academic appointment, and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds, beginning fall 2027. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor depending on qualifications and credentials. The department will consider candidates with demonstrated expertise and experience in thermo-fluids science and engineering, encompassing both fundamental and applied research in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and energy-related systems. Particular interest is directed toward researchers advancing the understanding, modeling, experimentation, prediction, and control of complex fluid-thermal phenomena. Fundamental areas of interest include turbulence, flow instabilities, multiphase flows, environmental flows, combustion, reacting flows, thermal management, and hypersonic propulsion. The department welcomes expertise in both computational and experimental approaches, including computational fluid dynamics, data-driven and machine learning methods, reduced-order modeling, uncertainty quantification, and advanced measurement and diagnostic techniques. Applications may span aerospace and propulsion systems, energy conversion and storage, advanced manufacturing, defense technologies, and emerging engineering systems where fluid, thermal, and reacting-flow processes play a critical role. Successful candidates will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary community of faculty addressing pressing challenges in energy, transportation, and advanced engineering systems, with the goal of developing transformative scientific insights and impactful engineering solutions.

The successful applicant will be required to teach, advise and mentor graduate students, develop an independent, externally funded research program, participate in all aspects of the department’s activities, and serve the profession. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering or science discipline. Applicants should consult the department’s website to review our academic and research programs (http://engineering.tamu.edu/mechanical).
