Our Build Team is trusted to help our partners get started on their venture building journey, develop an enduring mechanism for venture creation, manage organizational tension, create advantage for the companies they are launching with us, increase the odds of startup success, and secure additional resources and funding. The Build Team sits at the intersection of brand new venture backable startup ideas, and centuries-old legacy institutions and companies. We have a passion for the energy and creativity that only startups can create, as well as an admiration for the scope, scale, and capabilities of our partners.

As an Associate, you will identify, research, validate and advance opportunities to launch startups with strategic partners by conducting comprehensive market research, testing critical assumptions, and effectively communicating their findings. The ideal candidate will excel in their ability to distill complex research into easily digestible and actionable deliverables that provide insightful and useful guidance. Through a combination of research and analysis, you will create partner-ready materials that contribute to the advancement of the work plan.

Job Responsibilities

    • Serve as a key member of the Build Team to identify new startup and studio opportunities in alignment with Fieldbook’s strategic partners and plans
    • Research Retail Value Chain-aligned markets and new business opportunities, test business models against uncovered jobs to be done, develop business models, and complete due diligence on our assumptions to validate or pivot those models.
    • Participate in problem definition, primary and secondary research, and solution development through structured frameworks
    • Ideate and test new B2B SaaS concepts through testing applicable business models to the given problem statement
    • Analyze and interpret research findings, transforming them into actionable insights that align with the goals of Fieldbook and our partners
    • Effectively communicate research outcomes and insights by developing talk tracks, creating informative analysis and presentation materials, and incorporating feedback to enhance material quality
    • Analyze and interpret research findings to create a logical narrative that aligns with themes
    • Engage in program management, ensuring clear communication and attention to detail within the team and upholding transparency regarding daily activities
    • Participate in Fieldbook Venture Studio’s Sprint Week process to create a brand identity, user-validated click-through models of the product, and establish a price-point and go-to-market strategy, which are informed by product roadmap and headcount assumptions, culminating in a pitch day to make a launch and investment decision quickly
    • Actively participate in career development and coaching opportunities; strive to develop mastery within all elements of the playbook including structured problem solving methodologies
    • Participate in the overall development of our firm’s capabilities by mentoring and sharing knowledge with team members

Skills Needed

    • BS/BA required, MBA and/or advanced degree strongly preferred
    • Minimum 3 years of work experience preferably in venture capital,  management consulting or corporate innovation or strategy
    • Venture and startup experience a strong plus
    • Experience in organizations that tie to the “Retail Value Chain” a strong plus
    • Passion for working with startups and patience for working with large enterprises
    • Executive presence, a strategic mind, and high business acumen
    • Comfort with ambiguity and working at a fast and demanding pace, a high bar for excellence, and motivation to deliver exceptional work consistently
    • Ability to iterate and execute regardless of industry or market
    • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to adapt style based on audience
    • Demonstrated EQ and dynamic communication skills needed to quickly build trusting collaborative relationships and instill confidence in their work with all stakeholders
    • Advanced PowerPoint/Google Slides/Keynote skills
    • Self-starter who can thrive in an unstructured and collaborative team environment
    • Ability to travel (up to 25%)
