Job Summary

 

At Daylight Solutions, our Principal Firmware Engineer will be responsible for driving technology and completion of activity on time and budget; Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems; Ability to complete a technical project independently; Ability to mentor and coach other engineers.
 

Job Responsibilities

 

• Responsible for driving technology and completion of activity on time and budget.
• Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems.
• Ability to complete a technical project independently.
• Mentor and coach other engineers.
• Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
• Derive and document component and subsystem specifications.
• Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments.
• Analyze existing designs and provide modification proposals as necessary.
• Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services.
• Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
• Develop prototypes to retire key development risks.
• Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required.
• Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress.
• Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings.
• Involved with the design, development, analysis, testing and debugging of computer software applications and/or systems. 
• Determine hardware compatibility. 
• Complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.  
• Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.
• Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.

 

 

Our Ideal Candidate will have

 

• Proficiency in C, Python, VHDL and/or Verilog
• Experience developing FPGA based embedded systems with mixed microcontroller and HDL platforms
• Experience working with system communications interfaces and protocols (Ethernet, 1553, UART, etc.) 
• Experience developing, documenting, and testing embedded systems for military applications
• Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge

Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field with a minimum of 8 years of experience
• Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge 
• Expected to have knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines

 

The pay scale for this position is $123,292/year - $191,412/year. The pay scale information is a general guideline only. When extending an offer of employment, DRS Daylight Solutions considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
